Desktop/Server Specialist

Job Summary:
This is a desktop support and Windows systems administration role for an individual who can work comfortably performing support work as an individual or as a team member.  Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  Performs a variety of tasks in a fast pace environment and works under general guidance.  Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with attention to detail, accuracy and communication back to the department manager.  A certain degree of creativity and latitude required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary point person for all user issues, servers issues, server maintenance plans, back-ups, account administration, group policies and active directory.  Provide day-to-day administration and support of Nomacorc’s LAN, hardware/software installation/configuration, setup/configuration of desktops and laptops and associated peripheral equipment. 


Strong problem-solving skills in a team environment.  Knows when to exhibit leadership abilities and when to be a team player.  Good organization, time management and multitasking skills are a must.  Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with a variety of cross-functional groups.  Ability to take direction, work independently and in a team environment. 


Must be self motivated, take initiatives and deals well in stressful situations.  Must be an action orientated person who determines root causes to problems and suggests solutions.  Analyzes and interprets business requirements and evaluates alternative IT approaches.  Provides technical support and training to assist users.


Requirements:



  • Individually resolve a large number of hardware and software support issues

  • Using Track-It develop a knowledge base that is available to all of IT

  • Determine the difference between critical and non-critical issues and prioritize each task appropriately

  • Provides support and instruction in use of business productivity applications to end users, both on-site and by telephone.

  • Maintain technical documentation for the IT department.

  • Diagnose issues via telephone; help and guide the end users to problem resolution

  • Proactively monitor various error logs

  • Develop, maintain and present SLA statistics for management upon request.

  • Analyze historical data to suggest system improvements to reduce or eliminate call volume for certain incident types

  • Responsible for nightly backups across all servers

  • Maintain hardware asset inventory, software licenses (installed vs. purchased)

  • Responsible for off/on-site end-user IT education and new hire computer education

  • Set up new PCs and Servers according to company standards

  • Work on related projects as assigned

  • Work closely with counterparts at Belgium company

  • Support remote users via GoToMyPC

  • Administration of Windows 2003 Domain and Exchange 2007

  • Administer Active Directory and Site Group Policy

  • Administer VMWare & NetApp environment

  • Administer IPMonitor alerting system

  • Working in a manufacturing environment

  • 3 years troubleshooting, testing, implementing and maintaining Windows systems

  • 2 years helpdesk experience with 100+ end users in a Winodws OS environment

  • 1-2 years of experience supporting Windows server environment

  • 1-2 years of experience using the following: Ghost, Active Directory, Group Policy, VMWare, NetApp and Cisco RightFax/CUPS

  • Understands IT policies and procedures and communicate these to the user community

  • Ability to manage tasks with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong commitment to customer service with good interpersonal communication, presentation, problem solving and analytical skills

  • Strong team player

  • Experience with networking tools and troubleshooting

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Available for after hour support

Education Requirements: 
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or software engineering with relevant specialized training and 2 years applicable experience

Sit for long periods working in front of a computer screen typing
Walk to other areas of the facility
Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and reach

Office
May occasionally work in a manufacturing environment
May work in areas with moderate to loud noise
